The Rise of Online Porn Addiction

Cyber pornography is a type of pornography that can be found online through the Internet. This is one of the most common and easiest types of pornography that a porn addict can access. With only a personal computer and an Internet connection, a person can now access pornography in the safety, convenience and privacy of his room.

Cyberporn, by definition, encompasses everything that describes pornography that can be found online. These include nude and semi-nude pictures, low quality and downloadable video clips mostly of seemingly young women masturbating or having sex with men and perhaps even other women. Cyberporn is also used to describe dirty chat sessions between two individuals that are sometimes not what they seem.

The Rise of Cyberporn

According to the Center for Online Addiction, most people who initially had no problem about porn addiction actually succumb to online sex. These people don’t avail themselves of adult videos or pornographic magazines. They, however, download porn from the Internet. Some of them also engage in lewd and sexually explicit discussions with strangers in chat rooms.

The Internet is considered one of the most revolutionary inventions that man has ever come up with. Through the Internet, one can access his bank account, conduct businesses, and correspond with people from the other side of the world from the convenience of his/her own house or workplace. Originally intended as a military technology, the World Wide Web is now considered a huge bridge that spans races, countries, and languages and brings them close together.

There, however, exists a dark side to the usage of the Internet. Through the anonymity that the technology offers, people can now exploit this advantage and be able to experiment with things that they usually cannot do in real life. This includes cyberporn, and the subsequent problem of online porn addiction. A 50-year-old grandmother can use the Internet to pretend that she is a lively, young and attractive 18-year-old and engage in conversations with men. Worse, a 12-year-old kid could pretend to be of legal age and get the same effect.

In short, the Internet offers a person an outlet for his secret fantasies. A well-known and respected man in the community could not otherwise make his sexual fantasies known in real-life for fear of being persecuted for it, but he can do so without restrictions through the Internet.

This has contributed to the rise of online porn addiction among users of the World Wide Web. According to the Center for Online Addiction, in a group of 5 people, one person is most likely hooked to this kind of pornography. They are mostly people whose self-esteem is low. They suffer from lapses in confidence because of some physical impairment that they are ashamed of, and causes them to be unable to consummate their sexual urges in a normal manner. Through the anonymity offered by the Internet, these people are allowed a change to pursue their urges in a manner that will not reveal the impairments that have earlier stopped them from doing so.
